Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as 21-year-old development defender completes move back north of the border

Josh Reid: Coventry City complete deal for Ross County defender - BBC Sport

Coventry City defender Josh Reid has returned to his hometown club Ross County, bringing an end to his two-and-a-half-year spell with the English Championship side.

The tough-tackling left-back joined the Sky Blues in January 2021 from the Staggies, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal after City agreed an undisclosed fee for the player.

But although Reid played 20 Scottish Premier division games for County, he was unable to bridge the gap from Coventry’s development squad to Mark Robins’ first team. He helped City win their professional development league in 2022 and went out on loan to League Two Stevenage last season, albeit only managing on appearance.

But now Reid has returned to Scotland in the hope of resurrecting his first team career under manager Malky Mackay at Victoria Park. City and County agreed on a fee for the player who then agreed to his personal terms with the Staggies who managed to just avoid relegation last season.

Coventry City confirmed the deal today, saying: “Coventry City can confirm that Josh Reid has joined Ross County in a permanent transfer. The defender has moved to the Scottish Premiership side for an undisclosed fee.”

Ross County manager, Malky Mackay said: “I am delighted to see Josh return to the club, he knows the club and area very well and is a player who has had recent international experience with the Scotland U21s.”
