WHAT A SURPRISE: Brighton has change name of Amex Stadium for 2023/24 Premier League season

Brighton changed the name of Amex Stadium for the 2023/24 Premier League season

Premier League high-flyers Brighton & Hove Albion will change their ground’s name to American Express Stadium while the club’s charitable arm will be re-named Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation

Brighton & Hove Albion have announced a stadium name change for the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Seagulls on Monday revealed that the American Express Community Stadium, better known by its shortened name ‘the Amex’, will be renamed from August 1.

A statement on the club’s official website announced the ‘community’ part of the name will be dropped ahead of the upcoming season. That is due to the charitable arm of the club being renamed the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation and moving its operations away from the stadium.

The ground will therefore be known solely as American Express Stadium as the charity moves into Brighton’s city center, at the “heart of the community it serves”.

Brighton’s chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: “This summer, with the support of our partner American Express, our stadium will be re-named American Express Stadium, while our charitable arm, Albion in the Community, will become the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation.

“These small but important changes are designed to deliver even better value to our main partner, while also more closely aligning and connecting our charity’s excellent work and its many participants with our club.

“Our partnership with American Express, which began when the stadium first opened and our club was in League One, is now globally recognized, and our multi-award-winning work in the community is widely regarded as among the best in the world.”

Senior vice president at American Express Beverly Sawyers added: “We’re immensely proud of our 13-year partnership with the club, which is based on shared values and a passion for our community. Fans are always top of mind for both the club and ourselves, and we are sure they’ll really enjoy the refreshed look and feel of the stadium once the changes are complete.”

The announcement stated changes to the stadium’s signage will be in place for the new campaign. Other “more significant changes” were also said to be in the works over the next 12 months.

It comes after a ground-breaking 2022/23 campaign for Brighton where they finished sixth under Roberto De Zerbi. It marked the best Premier League finish ever for the Seagulls, who qualified for Europa League football next season.
