Jamie Carragher was a big fan of Everton target Wilfried Gnonto last season.

Writing in his column for The Telegraph in February, the former Liverpool defender labeled the youngster as ‘very impressive’ in his first season at Leeds United.

Gnonto has attracted plenty of interest across Europe after his breakthrough campaign in the Premier League, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Everton has made ‘concrete moves’ to sign the Italian.

The Whites endured a really difficult campaign in the top flight as they were relegated to the Championship, however, Gnonto proved to be one of the few positives as he scored twice and bagged four assists.

“Leeds’ run of nine games without a win is currently the worst in the Premier League,” Carragher said.

“They have the third worst defense, and only one other side (Leicester) loses more points when in a winning position.

“On the flip side, whenever you watch Leeds they look capable of scoring and creating goals – Wilfried Gnonto has been very impressive.

“They have scored 12 more goals than Everton, and, like Goodison Park, the atmosphere created at Elland Road is a significant weapon.”

Wilfried Gnonto is deserving of Everton’s attention

Everton are said to be one of many clubs targeting a move for Wilfried Gnonto and it comes as no surprise that they are reportedly joined by the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus chasing the teenager.

Gnonto spent a large chunk of the latter stages of the season on the bench – much to the fans’ frustration – and was unable to help them avoid relegation.

However, he has proven himself as a brilliant player with plenty of ability and potential – one which Everton would be very lucky to sign.

While it will certainly be hard to lure him to Merseyside given their stiff competition, they should at least try and tempt him with a stay in the Premier League.
