New Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is set to streamline his squad as a matter of priority this summer.
Tottenham has put a whole host of players in the shop window this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to reshuffle his new squad. Although Eric Dier is reportedly set to stay and fight for his place, there are plenty of other sought-after stars who could boost Spurs’ transfer kitty if clubs come knocking.
Dier was viewed by many as a player vulnerable to being moved on this summer, given that he only has one year left on his Tottenham contract. But reports indicate that he is looking forward to working under Postecoglou and feels better than ever, having made a full recovery from groin surgery.
The Lilywhites are not thought to have received a formal offer for the England international, but even if one was tabled, Dier would be expected to reject it and focus on taking Spurs back to the European spots.
Six other players remain on the chopping block, however, with The Telegraph providing new detail on the likely candidates to make a way in chairman Daniel Levy’s forthcoming fire sale.
Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon are the first names on the list, having spent last season on loan in La Liga. Neither player is thought to have a future under Postecoglou as he gears up for an important pre-season campaign in north London.
A significant revamp could also be in store on the left side of the defense, with Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon both reportedly deemed expendable. Spurs are actively looking to bolster their defensive options in the transfer market, which could send the duo tumbling down the pecking order if they opt to stick around.
The same defensive recruitment drive is set to spell the end for center-back Davinson Sanchez, too. The Colombian started only eight games in the Premier League last campaign, and Postecoglou’s tendency towards a four-at-the-back formation means there will be fewer opportunities for central defenders currently at the club.
Finally, and perhaps most surprisingly, is midfield general Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Despite being almost ever-present last term, the Dane ‘could be allowed to leave this summer, with Spurs ‘likely to listen to offers
Aside from the six players in question, Harry Winks is also on the verge of making his inevitable departure, with Leicester City closing in on a £ 10 million swoop for the ex-England international.
The Spurs have wasted no time in making acquisitions of their own in the current window. Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro have both seen their loan moves made permanent, while James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario have been brought in from elsewhere.
Furthermore, left wing-back Destiny Udogie is finally poised to join up with the Tottenham squad, having spent last season on loan at Udinese after signing 12 months ago.
