Nigerian outlet Complete Sports are now reporting that Leeds is interested in signing Nottingham Forest striker Emmanuel Dennis, who could be set to leave just a year on from his £ 20 million signing at the City Ground.

The 25-year-old netted just two goals and two assists in 19 Premier League appearances last season after leaving Watford for Steve Cooper’s side.

Instead, we take a look at two players Leeds needs to be looking at instead of signing Dennis…

In terms of Championship strikers that Leeds ought to be aiming to sign, there aren’t many better options than a move for Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.

The Dutchman was vital to Russell Martin’s side last season as he bagged 19 goals and two assists in a possession-heavy side – while managing 22 goals and six assists in 21/22 – something he would be used to at the top end of the table for whichever team he moves to this summer.

The Telegraph’s John Percy revealed that Piroe is one of the multiple targets for fellow relegated side Leicester City this month, and the Whites would have a competition to secure his signature.

If Leeds is serious about competing with their direct rivals this summer, muscling Leicester out of the way for Piroe would be a statement of intent.

Poaching from EFL seems to be a smart way to go about business as a recently-relegated side, and harming Middlesbrough’s chances of another promotion push would be a good way to go about it.

Chuba Akpom ended the Championship season with a deserved golden boot, having netted a stunning 28 goals and two assists under Michael Carrick.

He’s someone that would be a tough sell to bring from Teesside to West Yorkshire as Boro looks to go one stronger, but with 12 months left on his contract, he might not command the most absurd of fees.

Leeds knows they would be getting a striker capable of linking up the front line incredibly well either dropping deeper into pockets or stretching in behind, versatility that would be vital.
