BEACKING NEWS: Wrexham AFC manager has announce the departure of some players

Wrexham AFC to reform Academy with Category 4 license

Wrexham AFC is progressing with plans to reform the Academy and help develop players in the future.

The club boasts a proud history of developing and nurturing some of North Wales’s finest footballing talent – producing European champions, World Cup internationals, and icons of the game – but has not had the resources to continue this during the majority of its 15-year absence from the Football League.

Wrexham AFC is therefore now proud to announce that it has applied for a Category 4 license under the Elite Player Performance Plan (‘EPPP’) with a view to the 2023/24 season being one of transition, with the intention to apply for Category 3 status from 2024/25.

An immediate priority following the return to EFL League Two was to reform the Academy within the EPPP structure and the club is now looking to recruit for roles within the Academy:

Full-time

  • Academy Manager
  • PDP Lead Coach & Head of Coaching
  • Assistant PDP Coach
  • Senior Physiotherapist
  • Head of Talent Identification and Recruitment
  • Secretary, Safeguarding and Welfare Officer

Part-time

  • Performance Analyst
  • Goalkeeping Coach
  • Education Co-Ordinator
  • Strength & Conditioning Coach

On the launch of the Wrexham AFC Academy, executive director Humphrey Ker said: “Ever since the takeover of the Football Club, Rob and Ryan have been clear in their ambition to build a sustainable model for success, as well as reinforcing the legacies and traditions of Wrexham AFC.

“As a club, we’ve missed out on the opportunity to sign lots of local talent, including the likes of Neco Williams, Harry Wilson, and Tom Lawrence, as we’ve not had the infrastructure to support their development going forward.

This will now change. We have ambitious and exciting plans to build an infrastructure capable of nurturing North Wales’ finest talents.”
