Martin Sherif signs new Everton contract as news confirmed

Everton has confirmed that under-18 striker Martin Sherif has signed his professional contract with the club.

Sherif, 17, was prolific for the youth side last season netting 15 goals and earning four assists in 23 appearances for the Leighton Baines-coached side.

The Netherlands youth player had been given chances to train with the under-21 squad last season and even made three appearances last season.

Speaking to Evertontv, Sherif said: “I feel good. There’s lots of joy at signing this contract and I’m ready to go.

“For next season, I want to be in and around the Under-21 side [and] play well there which could hopefully catch Sean Dyche’s eye.

“It’s also important for me to keep featuring for Holland because playing for your country is one of the best honors you can achieve.”

Prospect looking to make an impact

Sherif is certainly a prospect that Everton fans can look forward to in the coming seasons.

A prolific attacker at the youth level, Shefif is on a good trajectory to have a real impact with the under-21s next season.

He seems keen not only to make the appearances but also to improve his game, claiming that he is trying to develop his hold-up play like first-team forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and become more composed in front of goal.

Sherif is also a regular within the Netherlands’ youth setup, being the starting striker and having made a good impact during the under-17s European Championship.

Sherif is among one of Everton’s hottest youth prospects, including Northern Ireland international Jack Patterson.

His mentality is also clear. He clearly wants to be on the radar of a first-team call-up at some point in his future and wants to impress the only man who could get him there: Sean Dyche.

Everton fans will hope that Sherif’s potential can be fulfilled and that his progress in the youth setup will continue at its current rate. If so, the Toffees may have a quality player in their ranks.

In other Everton news, the Toffees youth star is set to stay at Goodison Park amid interest from Championship.
