Tottenham makes a verbal offer to sign 22-year-old Liverpool target

Tottenham Hotspur makes an opening verbal offer for Liverpool target and VFL Wolfsburg Micky van de Ven

According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur is closing in on Liverpool’s target and 22-year-old VfL Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.

Van de Ven is attracting interest from a series of top clubs after an impressive season with Wolfsburg with Liverpool one of the teams interested in the player.

Liverpool are linked with Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.

A young dynamic defender, the player has a very interesting profile as he is left-footed and comfortable with playing out from the back, which has been a rather popular requirement in modern-day football.

Subsequently, Jurgen Klopp has shown interest in the player but it seems that our rivals Spurs have taken the first advantage with a verbal opening season for the player, who has a contract with Wolfsburg till 2027.

Spurs under new manager Ange Postecoglou has been keen on bringing in young potential talent for the upcoming season and the Dutch defender is one of the names on the club’s shortlist.

Micky van de Ven of VfL Wolfsburg has been linked with Liverpool.

Liverpool, though, is in no urgent to upgrade our defensive options with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate easily our preferred defensive lineup for the coming seasons at least.

However, it is important to plan for the future as Van Dijk is 31 years old and would soon be a suitable replacement in the next couple of years. Van de Ven has shown with Wolfsburg the potential that he holds and if his development goes well, he can turn out to be a top defender in the coming years.

It would also be in line with the strategy adopted by the club in recruiting young top potential before they become a household name and then require a sizeable fee to acquire them.

With Spurs advancing in their interest for the Dutch defender, if Klopp and the recruitment team are keen on the player then they would need to act quickly or risk losing the player to a direct rival. Spurs lack a quality partner for Cristian Romero and they can offer Van de Ven a guaranteed starting spot – something we may not be able to do right now.
