Leeds United is interested in snapping up Swansea City striker Joel Piroe as a potential swap deal with Everton fades away.

Joel Piroe is becoming a prime target for Leeds United as they seek to add a new striker this summer.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Leeds are ‘on the trail’ of Piroe this summer.

It’s suggested that Leeds actually tried to sign Piroe at the end of the summer transfer window last year but no deal was done.

The time may now be right for Leeds to strike for Piroe as he enters the final year of his contract with Swansea.

It currently looks unlikely that Piroe will sign a new deal with Swansea, so there may be a chance for Leeds to pounce.

The Dutchman has been outstanding ever since joining Swansea from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021.

Piroe has now racked up 44 goals and eight assists in 92 games for Swansea, a quite ridiculous record.

Still only 23, Piroe is both a proven Championship goalscorer and a player with real potential, which is the kind of mix Leeds want.

Leeds are far from the only club being linked with a move for Piroe.

Everton is in the market for a striker too and Piroe appears to be one player on their wish list.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the Toffees are seeking to sign Piroe and a swap deal had been explored.

Swansea has been interested in signing Everton striker Ellis Simms and there appeared to be a real possibility for an exchange.

However, Simms is now close to joining Coventry City in a deal worth between £ 6 million to £ 8 million according to The Athletic.

That means a Simms for Piroe swap is now off the table, which may just open the door for Leeds to swoop in and push for a deal.

Daniel Farke has come in as the new Leeds boss and needs a goalscorer with Piroe certainly fitting the bill for the Whites.
