Ange Postecoglou could finally sign Ko Itakura for Tottenham Hotspur having missed out on him with Celtic.

Tottenham’s search for new centre-backs continues with a number of names already linked.

Max Kilman and Tosin Adarabioyo are two of the names mentioned if Tottenham goes down the homegrown route.

Then there are options in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven suggested.

There is now another rumor emerging in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura wanted.

Sky Germany now claims that Tottenham is battling Napoli in the race to sign Gladbach ace Itakura.

Florian Plettenberg adds that Itakura is ‘open to a change’ this summer with Spurs now seemingly an option for him.

Itakura, 26, only joined Gladbach from Manchester City last summer and was a regular with 22 Bundesliga starts last season.

Only a knee problem between September and November kept Itakura from playing more games for Gladbach.

Tottenham are now interested and there may be one clear driving force behind this interest – Ange Postecoglou.

We know that Postecoglou loves to shop in the Japanese market having landed the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate at Celtic.

If the former Yokohama F. Marinos manager had his way, Itakura may well have joined those Japanese stars in Glasgow.

The Daily Record reported in 2021 that Postecoglou wanted to sign Itakura but he ended up joining Schalke on loan instead.

Schalke couldn’t afford to activate a permanent deal for Itakura, the Manchester Evening News reported that Celtic were back in.

Again though, Postecoglou and the Bhoys missed out as Itakura joined Gladbach in a permanent deal.

Fast forward a year and Postecoglou could finally sign Itakura, this time with Tottenham as the former Manchester City man may be given a Premier League chance at long last.
