25-year-old ‘superstar’ agrees personal terms, he’s now pushing to sign for Newcastle

It sounds like Newcastle United now only need to agree a transfer fee to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City this summer.

The Magpies have stepped up their bid to sign a winger they missed out on last year. Eddie Howe wants Barnes at St James’ Park, and the feeling is mutual.

The 25-year-old ‘superstar‘ wants to sign for Newcastle ahead of the new season, and the latest report from the Telegraph suggests that a lot of things are falling into place for the Toon recruitment team.

Harvey Barnes pushing to sign for Newcastle

According to the Telegraph, Barnes has already agreed personal terms to leave Leicester and sign for Newcastle. They state that he is now pushing for the move as negotiations over the fee continue.

So with the player keen and personal terms agreed, all there is left to do is for Newcastle to have an offer accepted by Leicester. Simple, right?

If only it were that simple. The Telegraph adds that a move for Barnes could be funded by Allan Saint-Maximin, who could be sold after four years on Tyneside.

His departure would provide Newcastle with the cash injection they need to sign Barnes, while it could also help the club’s approach for Southampton’s Tino Livramento.

Whether Saint-Maximin goes or not (and hopefully he doesn’t), it should not be too difficult for Newcastle to agree a fee with Leicester. It has been expected for a long time that Barnes is going to leave, and the fact he has already agreed terms with the Magpies should force Leicester’s hand.

A fee of £ 35 million was rumored late last week, while £25million was floated at the weekend. The former is probably too much for us, while the latter is arguably too little for Leicester. His true value is somewhere in the middle, and will hopefully lead to a compromise being reached.
