Sessegnon has undergone surgery after a recurrence of a hamstring injury 

23-year-old was targeted by Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham

Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon has undergone hamstring surgery to dash the hopes of a number of Premier League clubs vying for his signature.

Sessegnon has suffered a recurrence of the injury that troubled him towards the end of last season and has gone under the knife.

The 23-year-old will miss the start of the season, with his duration on the sidelines likely keep him out until after the transfer window.

The news comes a blow to Ange Postecoglou, who was hoping evaluate Sessegnon ahead of the new season.

But the injury will also spell the end of Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham’s hopes of signing the former England Under-21 star.

No decision had been made over Sessegnon’s future at Tottenham, but a host of clubs were moving into position to strike if Spurs were open to letting him go. A number of European teams including Benfica and Marseille had also shown an interest.
