‘DAVID SULLIVAN A BIG FAN’: JOURNALIST NAMES QUARTET WEST HAM COULD SIGN WITH DECLAN RICE MONEY

Alex Crook has shared how Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Denis Zakaria and Harvey Barnes are transfers West Ham United could push for now Declan Rice has been sold to Arsenal.

It took a while, but Arsenal finally confirmed on Saturday that Declan Rice has secured a club-record transfer to the Premier League title contenders.

It leaves West Ham with a wad of money to spend, with David Moyes needing to enhance his squad and Crook sharing that David Sullivan is a ‘big fan’ of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, as he told talkSPORT.

Of course, this just isn’t the case of bringing in one player, that’s why James Ward-Prowse, who was relegated with Southampton last season, has been mentioned, alongside former Chelsea loan player, Denis Zakaria.

But the midfield isn’t the only area that could be bulked up by the Europa League Conference winners.

Transfer expert Crook also stated that the Hammers faithful need to ‘keep an eye’ out on Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes.

“I have got a few names,” said Crook. “Certainly there is interest in Alvarez, over at Ajax – I know David Sullivan is a big fan of his.

“James Ward-Prowse is another that has been discussed internally. I think David Moyes would be in favour of that signing given the leadership qualities that he would bring from what they are losing with Declan Rice’s departure.

“There have been negotiations with Denis Zakaria as well at Juventus. That deal doesn’t seem to have accelerated.

“Also, keep an eye on Harvey Barnes. A different type of player to Declan Rice. A week ago, he looked close to a move to Newcastle, but no breakthrough in negotiations with those two clubs. I know West Ham have a big interest in Harvey Barnes as well.”

Spend if you need to, not because you can…

The first massive stumbling block facing West Ham now is that teams know they have a lot of money to spend, so everything is going to be inflated.

They will have to get through those troubled waters somehow, but also make sure they don’t buy players just because they have the money to do so.

Bring in the players that are needed, rather than just splashing the cash for no reason and in 12 months having a big asset struggling and stuck at the club.
