good signing: Leeds announce done deal as youngster signs new contract

Leeds United contract update as youngster commits to new deal

Teenager Charlie Crew has signed his first professional contract with Leeds United, the club announced on their official website.

The club confirmed on Monday (24 July) that the 17-year-old has penned terms to stay at Elland Road until 2025.

Midfielder Crew joined Leeds last summer and played 12 times in the U-18 Premier League and twice in the FA Youth Cup.

He was then promoted to the U-21 squad at Leeds and contributed 10 appearances as the Whites won the Premier League 2.

The crew also boasts international recognition having represented Wales at U-15, U-16, and U-17 levels – earning the captain’s armband for the latter.

Another off-the-production line

Whatever criticisms you have been able to aim at Leeds United over the past couple of decades, one you could never claim is that they do not know how to nurture young talent.

Leeds’ academy at times can feel like a conveyor belt of young talent, and Crew is a prospect the club clearly feels extremely excited about having promoted him so quickly to the U-21s and now offering him professional terms.

Supporters will be glad to see another prospect commit their future to the club, as he could either eventually end up being a member of the first team or earn the club a few quid in transfer fees in the future.

Work needs to be done to sort out the first-team squad, both in terms of outgoings and incomings, in the next few weeks of course, but that should not lessen the excitement whenever a young gem opts to continue his education at the club.
