‘The right time’: Wolves confirm departure of academy graduate

Luton Town has officially announced the acquisition of Ryan Giles from Wolves which has been dubbed a good move for all.

The deal sees Wolves’ academy graduate Ryan Giles, complete a permanent move away from Old Gold.

He joins Premier League side Luton Town, ahead of interest from various Championship teams including Middlesbrough where he spent last season on loan.

Giles impressed many with his performances assisting 12 goals in 48 games for Boro, as he helped Middlesbrough rise up the table.

A proud moment for many at the club, as he will be a Premier League first-team regular next season, as Luton paid an undisclosed fee for his services.

This ends his 15-year spell at Wolves, following the move much has been said by both the club and player alike.

Giles on his move

Giles had recognized he was at a level now to be featuring regularly, and wanting some stability, he sought out a permanent move.

He told Luton’s official website:

“I’ve reached the point that at my age that I’ve had a lot of loans and I feel those experiences have made me the player and the person I am today,”.

Clearly, his departure is an emotional moment, due to his long-time at the club, however, he is also excited about his future.

He continued: “Now this is a different direction, a new beginning, a new chapter.”

The club on Giles

On confirmation of the deal, Wolves Sporting Director Matt Hobbs told club media that: “When he wasn’t going to be part of Julen’s plans, it didn’t feel right to loan him again.

It’s a good move for all parties, we protect ourselves with add-ons and a sell-on, but also a buy-back. Now felt the right time to give him a home.”

Clearly, this is a smart move from the club, to let him leave with the foresight to include add-ons and a sell-on clause which should give the club some solace in letting him go.
