TOTTENHAM SEEKING COMPROMISE TO SIGN ‘VERY RAPID’ £50M ATTACKER

Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson if Harry Kane leaves.

Brennan Johnson is in line to become a top Tottenham Hotspur target if Harry Kane departs this summer.

That is according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Johnson is wanted at Tottenham as they weigh up Harry Kane’s future.

Bayern Munich are keen to sign Kane but it’s unclear whether they will be able to finalise a deal.

Tottenham need to eye up replacements just in case tough and Johnson is one of them.

The Nottingham Forest forward appeals thanks to his Premier League experience and homegrown status.

Forest are understood to have already rejected an offer worth £35million plus add-ons from Brentford.

Forest would allegedly be more willing to deal at around £50million – a price tag Tottenham wouldn’t be willing to pay.

A compromise could be reached though with Tottenham potentially ready to go to over £40million.

Brennan Johnson an exciting talent but not a Harry Kane replacement

Johnson has shown his quality with Forest, bagging eight goals and three assists in 38 Premier League outings last season.

The Welsh international made the step up to the Premier League after racking up 18 goals and 10 assists in Forest’s promotion-winning campaign.

Opta even clocked Johnson as the Premier League’s second-fastest player last season, just behind Kyle Walker and ahead of Mykhailo Mudryk.

That kind of speed would be welcomed at Tottenham but Johnson – hailed as ‘very rapid’ by Wales boss Rob Page – isn’t really a Kane replacement.

Johnson has mostly played out wide rather than through the middle, which may mean Tottenham want to push Son Heung-min centrally.

Johnson could hardly be more different than Kane; rather than dropping deep and offering creativity, Johnson is all about pace and getting in behind or taking on defenders.

That would suggest a potential change of plan for Tottenham – if they can tempt Forest into selling their prized attacker.
