undergoing medical’: Man United has signed a key striker

Rasmus Hojlund ‘undergoing Manchester United medical’ ahead of £72m move

Incoming Manchester United signing Rasmus Hojlund will undergo his medical today ahead of completing a huge £72million move.

The 20-year-old became Erik ten Hag’s key summer striker target, after learning Harry Kane was not interested in a move, after an impressive debut season with Atalanta which saw him score nine goals.

United have agreed a deal worth €75m (£64m) plus £10m (£8m) in add-ons, and Hojlund will sign a five-year deal to become the club’s third summer signing, after Mason Mount – who joined from Chelsea for £60m – and Andre Onana – who signed from Inter Milan for £47.2m.

The Athletic report that Hojlund is due at the club’s Carrington training ground on Tuesday to complete his medical. Official confirmation of the complete deal is expected later on Tuesday or on Wednesday.

Hojlund, who said his goodbyes to his team-mates over the weekend, has six caps for Denmark and has already scored six international goals.

Striker having medical today after £64 million Manchester United deal is agreed

Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund is set to have his medical with Manchester United today after the Italian side agreed a fee with United for the centre forward.

The Danish striker has agreed personal terms with United and is set to sign a five-year contract with the Old Trafford club according to The Athletic.

It comes after the two sides reached an agreement over the fee with a final figure of €75 million (£64 million) plus €10 million (8 million) in add-ons being agreed between the two sides on Saturday evening.

The forward was left out of the Atalanta squad for the game against Bournemouth in a pre-season friendly and that news certainly seemed to arouse suspicion among the United fanbase.

What will Hojlund offer?

it’s been a rapid rise for the Dane who only joined the Italian club after moving from the Austrian side Sturm Graz last summer. He registered eight goals and two assists in 31 Serie A games.

The Denmark international also scored five goals in two games during Euro 2024 qualifying in March, including a hat-trick against Finland.

His instinctive finishing as well as his movement in and around the box is sure to be a hit at Old Trafford. United need a fox in the box and it could be argued they haven’t had one since Edinson Cavani. But, with Hojlund, they have a young, fast and dynamic centre-forward to harangue the opposition defence.

Would he fit in at United?

The obvious answer is of course he would. Whether you agree with United looking at Hojlund instead of looking at Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen remains irrelevant. The Dane has a lot to prove and as a United fan, you’d expect he’d be determined to do just that.

There were at times during the frustrating defeat to Borussia Dortmund that United either couldn’t score for toffee or had no striker in the box ready to gobble up chances. Well, with Hojlund, United have just the solution for that growing problem.
