Nottingham Forest transfer target’s absence explained after £66m bid

The latest Nottingham Forest news as the goalkeeper was left out of the New England Revolution squad for their Leagues Cup clash this week.

Nottingham Forest transfer target Djordje Petrovic was left out of New England Revolution’s most recent match, following links with a move away from the club

Forest and Ligue 1 side Nantes are both said to have had bids of around $8 million (£6.2m) rejected by the American side this summer. Reports claim that the club wants to wait until the winter window to sanction any deal, with the transfer window in America now closed.

That transfer stance is said to have left the goalkeeper ‘upset’, and that he is keen to move in the current transfer window. New England Revolution were in action this week as they took on Mexican side Atlas in the Leagues Cup, but Petrovic was a notable absentee from the side.

The club explained that his absence was due to ‘personal reasons’. Speaking after the penalty shootout win, following a 2-2 draw, the club’s assistant coach Richie Williams addressed the situation.

“Our conversations with Djordje have been great,” Williams said, via MassLive. “Djordje is a great goalkeeper and person. We will take it day by day.

“We thought Earl (Edwards Jr.) was the best choice for our team tonight and he did a good job for us. Djordje will hopefully be ready in the coming days and then we will make the best choice of goalkeepers for our next game and who we think will perform best for us in goal.

“We are sympathetic with Djordje,” he added. “We are doing what’s best for both sides. Djordje and the future.

We felt Earl was the best choice for the game tonight. Obviously, he showed it. He did a really good job. We are working with Djordje day by day. (Djordie) has been training and we will keep moving forward with that.”

If Forest goes in with an improved bid is still to be seen. The Reds are in advancing talks with Arsenal over a permanent transfer for former New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Forest is also still pushing to re-sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United this summer. The goalkeeper impressed during a loan spell last season.
