done deal: Nottingham Forest has signed a South American wonderkid

Nottingham Forest will now sign Piero Quispe with the deal now agreed between all parties. The Reds have beaten off competition from Brighton to land the player.

According to ESPN Peru, Forest have now won the race to sign the Peruvian wonderkid. He currently plays for Universitario where he has risen through the youth ranks to play senior football.

Quispe hasn’t played much football for the senior ranks in his homeland. He’s made 28 appearances during 2022/23, scoring four goals and claiming one assist.

Typically, the South American performer operates as a number 10. He has, however, showcased his ability to play as a more conventional midfielder in the past.

The 21-year-old is highly rated in Peru. He’s already made his debut for the nation; featuring in a 1-0 friendly win over Bolivia back in November of last year.

Quispe is clearly an unknown quantity and it’s hard to grasp how the player might perform should he come to the Premier League.

Forest have perhaps had more limited success with these type of signings. They took Braian Ojeda from Paraguay and Brandon Aguilera from Costa Rica, but neither have made the breakthrough yet.

Forest to land Quispe and he could prove a real find

The player clearly fancies a move to England and perhaps this is a worthwhile deal as Forest look to scout South America.

Quispe might prove a useful addition. He could come in and get to grips with England and possibly feature for the under-21 team more often than not.

Furthermore, there is also the Papa John’s Trophy this year and that will give the young Reds a taste of playing against men.Universitario | Piero Quispe no se va: desde México y la MLS lo piden, pero Fossati ya tiene un plan | RMMD EMCC | FUTBOL-PERUANO | DEPOR

Quispe has done okay during 2022/23. As a result, he looks like a player who could develop into a star and Forest could sign him for a very small fee.

It would feel as though this deal is close. At the reported £1.2 million, it seems a complete no-brainer to get this one over the line and it will be interesting to see how things transpire.
