CONFIRMED | EMYR HUWS JOINS PERMANENTLY

Emyr Huws signs a four-year deal at Portman Road after the Blues agree a fee with Cardiff

Town have signed Wales international Emyr Huws on a four year contract.

The 23-year-old midfielder joins from Cardiff for an undisclosed fee after passing a medical and completing the paperwork over the move today.

Emyr spent the second half of last season on loan at Town and became an instant hit with the Blue Army, scoring the winner at Aston Villa and then a contender for Goal of the Season in the 3-1 victory over eventual champions Newcastle.

Town beat off competition from other clubs for his signature, with the four-year deal one of the longest in the Club’s recent history.

Having started as a youth at Swansea, Emyr joined Manchester City’s academy and then won a professional contract with the Premier League giants.

He had spells at Northampton, Birmingham and Wigan on loan before joining the Latics permanently in 2014.

Two years later, after a loan spell at Huddersfield, he joined Cardiff before heading to Portman Road in January on loan, scoring three goals in 13 games.

“We are delighted to have got the deal done. I’m sure the fans are thrilled as well,” Town boss Mick McCarthy told the Club website.

“Emyr was outstanding for us last season. He was arguably our best player along with Tom Lawrence and he certainly made us a better team.

“He’s only 23 so there is improvement in him. I’m sure other clubs would have been interested in him but we’re delighted he’s back with us. He was different class when he was here.”
