Tottenham young star has joined Saudi club

Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet close to joining Saudi club

Al Nassr seems to be the likely destination

Clément Lenglet is likely to join Al Nassr, a club in Saudi Arabia, throwing a lifeline to FC Barcelona, who were not happy to keep him. That is according to The Athletic.

The defender spent last season on loan to Tottenham Hotspur, and while he had a decent spell, the English club was not willing to pay what the Catalans demanded.

Barcelona are risking being stuck with Lenglet and his massive contract if they did not agree to sell him cheaply. He was not registered by Barcelona and was not making appearances even in preseason.

The Saudi offer then, could be a big relief if it means Barcelona are able to sell the player for a reasonable price.

He will join other players who have made the move from Europe to Al Nassr including Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mané, Alex Telles and Seko Fofana.

Tottenham set for Harry Kane transfer fee decision as two unlikely options suggested

Ange Postecoglou may be forced to buy from his side’s arch enemies in order to compete for the Champions League places this season

It’s been a summer of high highs but incredibly low lows for Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham side. The incredibly late exit of the club’s greatest ever player, Harry Kane, has thrown a serious spanner into the works.

The 29-year-old’s blockbuster move has meant that Spurs are now without an out-and-out centre-forward for the first time in a very long time and it’s certainly not a small hole to fill. When one player is worth a third of your league goals over your last six Premier League campaigns and he leaves the day before the next one starts, that is a problem.

And with just Brazilian international Richarlison as their main attacking threat through the centre, Postecoglou and company will be desperate to replace Kane before the transfer deadline comes on September 1 after he as well as Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski failed to contribute in their 2-2 draw against Brentford on Sunday.

But despite having a continent full of options to look at, it’s unlikely they need to look much further than their next door neighbours and bitter, bitter rivals. Reports seem to suggest that Arsenal frontman and USMNT international Folarin Balogun is on the radar as a potential way of filling the void left by Kane’s exit.

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the 22-year-old, who found the net 21 times in 37 Ligue 1 appearances for Reims last season on loan, could be the man to bolster Postecoglou’s attacking ranks for years to come.

football.london says: Kane’s exit might’ve come as a shock to some given his history of signing contract extensions on top of contract extensions but now he’s gone to finally fill up his trophy cabinet. Something that has been empty for far too long for a team like Spurs.

But Balogun could be the answer they’re looking for. Son will come good for 10-15 goals like he always does, and Kulusevski looks a good player on his day too off the wing. But Richarlison has never been a player that has excited too much, especially after his performances for Spurs last season.

Ultimately, they need to put the huge fee they received for Kane to good use. Whether that’s bringing in one or even two more attacking threats before the window is over, Arsenal are said to be asking for £50 million for the youngster which would give Spurs more than enough to go after someone else if they felt it necessary.

Fans might be anxious about giving their biggest rival a handful of cash to go and improve their own title-chasing side, and it might sting for a few months. But if he’s the difference-maker and trophy-bringer fans have been itching for over the past 15 years, then those nerves will go away very quickly though a deal is understood not to be in the offing with a move very, very unlikely.

If giving £50m to Arsenal is too much for fans, or Daniel Levy, to bare though, how about their West London rivals Chelsea instead? In their ranks, they have a proven, experienced goalscorer – in both the Premier League and multiple European leagues – that they’re looking to get rid of quickly and fills a similar role to that of Kane.

That’s right. You’ve probably already guessed who it is. It’s Romelu Lukaku. And they want him off the books fast.

Now, that’s not because of his wage packet. Of all the managers who could bring him to to qualm any anger and forge a carefree frame of mind, Ange Postecoglou could be the perfect man to do so.

According to the Daily Express, talks have already opened for the Belgian international to move across London, with the Blues ‘desperate’ to find a suitor for Lukaku following Inter Milan’s unwillingness to bring him back to their camp on a second consecutive loan spell and Juventus fans effectively barring the club out of going for him in the market by voicing their displeasure at the rumoured links.

football.london says: Lukaku is always an interesting topic of discussion and this window, he’s been no different. It might be the first time that such a prolific goalscorer has been told by three different sets of fans that they don’t want him at their club in one transfer saga. It’s quite incredible.

But Spurs aren’t in a position to be picky with their food. They need to get a deal done. If it is Lukaku they want, they can get that deal completed in the next few weeks, no issue, especially if they play co-operatively. Chelsea are only asking for £38.7m according to the latest reports – and for someone with over 100 goals in this league over their career, I’m taking that and running if I’m Daniel Levy.

Levy could potentially strengthen up Postecoglou’s attacking force ready to hit the ground running before they face the likes of Bournemouth, Burnley and Sheffield United and give him the best chance possible to get off the mark quickly. Again, like Balogun though, it is a scenario that looks far from becoming a reality and not a transfer that is expected to be done.
