Leicester City Sign Ayoze Pérez From Newcastle United

Leicester City Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Spanish forward Ayoze Pérez for an undisclosed fee, subject to Premier League and international clearance.

Forward Ayoze Pérez signs for Leicester City from Newcastle United
– The 25-year-old agrees a four-year deal at King Power Stadium
– Pérez scored 13 times in all competitions for the Magpies last season
– The Spaniard becomes City’s second signing of the summer transfer window

The 25-year-old joins from fellow Premier League side Newcastle United and has put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract at King Power Stadium to become the Foxes’ second signing of the summer, after the addition of James Justin from Luton Town.

Pérez, who has scored the winning goal on each of his previous two visits to King Power Stadium, spent the last five seasons on Tyneside and enjoyed his best Premier League campaign to-date in 2018/19, when he found the net 12 times.

Three times a winner of Newcastle’s Goal of the Season Award, Perez is one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, with pace, trickery and an eye for goal that will add plenty to City’s attacking ranks ahead of their top-flight opener at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday 11 August.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Pérez said: “I’m very happy and very pleased. I’m very proud to be part of the Leicester family and I can’t wait to get started.

“I think he’s a player who will excite our supporters, and his style is one that I believe complements the options and quality that we already have here at the Football Club.”

Born on the Canary Island of Tenerife, Pérez began his professional playing career with his home island team – playing for the B team in Spain’s lower leagues from 2011 before progressing into the senior setup for the 2012/13 campaign.

That season proved to be a key one for Pérez, whose performances earned him the Breakthrough Player of the Year award as CD Tenerife were promoted to the second tier of Spanish football. His progress continued at a rapid rate as he scored an impressive 16 times in just 34 games the following season – form that attracted the interest of a host of teams.

In the summer of 2014, Pérez eventually signed for Newcastle United and netted a healthy seven times in his debut Premier League campaign – earning him a call-up to the Spanish U21 side. He also scored an impressive 12 times to earn the Magpies promotion from the Championship in 2016/17 and has consistently been one of the first names on the Newcastle teamsheet throughout his time in the north east.

His 10 goals in 2017/18 helped the Magpies avoid relegation on their return to the top-flight, while his best season for the side came last term as he notched 13 times in all competitions – including a hat-trick in a 3-1 home victory over Southampton.

Pérez will now link up with his new Leicester City team-mates ahead of next week’s training camp in France as they prepare for a new Premier League season.
