28-year-old Wolves player on track to leave Molineux by the end of the month

Goncalo Guedes is reportedly still on track to join Benfica on loan from Wolves.

The winger has been back at Compton Park in recent days.

Guedes appeared in a video on the club’s YouTube account, prompting speculation that he could potentially be back involved for Wolves this season.

Of course, Julen Lopetegui is no longer at the club, with Gary O’Neil now at the helm

It has been suggested by some that the managerial change could provide Guedes with a clean slate.

Guedes then appeared on Wolves’ squad numbers list, which prompted further speculation.

But a report from Portugal has now poured cold water on a potential Guedes redemption arc at Molineux…

Earlier today, Record reported on Guedes.

They have claimed that the player is on track to join Benfica by the end of the month. The same publication said earlier this summer that there was an agreement for him to have another spell on loan there.

They acknowledge that there has been some interest from Spanish club Real Betis.

But apparently, everything indicates that Guedes will be rejoining Benfica, for what will be a third spell at the club.

Guedes joined Benfica in January of this year for the second half of 2022/23.

Wolves were hoping that Guedes would be really productive back in his homeland, and perhaps end up having clubs fighting to sign him.

But the star struggling with injuries, which has essentially scuppered Wolves’ plans to sell him this summer.

Wolves need a big season from Guedes

So it looks like Guedes will not be getting another chance at Wolves. And that’s probably not something he wanted anyway.

The Athletic have also said in a report this morning that it is unlikely that Guedes will appear in a Wolves shirt again.

What Wolves need now ideally is for him to have a really good season with Benfica.

Guedes cost Wolves £27.5 million and ideally the club will recoup as much of that fee back as possible.

But it could be that an option or obligation clause is agreed as part of the loan.
