‘sad news: Tottenham key star has been ruled out of Manchester united clash due to injury

Tottenham handed Cristian Romero injury boost for Manchester United showdown

Spurs defender went off straight after scoring at Brentford on opening weekend, but has since come through the Premier League’s concussion protocols

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is available to face Manchester United on Saturday after being forced off with a suspected concussion last weekend.

The centre-back clashed heads with Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo and was replaced soon after, immediately after opening the scoring with a header, as Ange Postecoglou’s tenure got under way with a 2-2 draw in west London.

Romero has come through the Premier League’s ‘return to play’ protocols for a suspected concussion, and is available for the Australian’s first home game in charge.

“Cristian is good to go, he’s been in the hands of the medical team going through all the protocols,” Postecoglou said on Friday. “It’s a clearly-defined process we needed to go through and he’s ticked all the boxes. He felt fine all week – trained and ready to go.”

Postecoglou has no fresh injury concerns for the visit of United, with Bryan Gil, Ryan Sessegnon and Rodrigo Bentancur still sidelined. Back-up goalkeeper Fraser Forster is expected to return to the squad after resuming training this week.

“Aside from that, no change from last week,” Postecoglou confirmed.
