Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is only going to get better and will ‘cause issues’ for a number of teams in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old was the star of the show as Spurs recorded their first league win under new manager Ange Postecoglou. That was also their first league win against Manchester United since their moved to their new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The last time they beat Manchester United was under Jose Mourinho.

Senegal international Pape Matar Sarr was a surprise selection ahead of Oliver Skipp and his manager says he was delighted with the way he stepped but wasn’t surprised because he’s got a ‘great temperament’.

The Tottenham boss told the press after the 2-0 2in: “He’s been great from the moment I arrived. He has a great energy about him but he has quality too. He’s one of these midfielders who really causes issues for opponents. Great temperament.”

Tottenham paid £ 3 million for the then 18-year-old Sarr in 2021 and left him at French side Metz before he joined the team proper last season under Antonio Conte.

There had been links to a loan move but an impressive pre-season suggested he would be one of the players the new manager was looking to get the best out of this season.

His performances also are credited to Ange Postecoglou who has not lost a home league game since last season counting from his time at Celtic. This Tottenham performance is also evidence that there is life after Harry Kane who joined Bayern Munich this summer.
