Amazing’: Tim Sherwood say 24-year-old Wolves star is now the best player in the world

‘Amazing’: Tim Sherwood blown away by 24-year-old Wolves player today

Wolves made their Molineux bow today for the 2023-24 season as Brighton visited Gary O’Neil’s side.

Old Gold saw their team well beaten as the Seagulls won 4-1, with a trio of goals within 10 minutes of the second-half kicking off.

However in the first-half, Wolves showed some more encouraging signs, which included a series of rampant counter attacks.

Their attacking game wasn’t the problem here as they created chances, but the finishing issue saw them miss four big chances in the game at Molineux.

One player was key in making the counters work well, that being Matheus Cunha who impressed Tim Sherwood in the Sky Sports studio.

Matheus Cunha played great

One man who drew praise was Wolves’ Brazilian star, Matheus Cunha after he once again put in a strong performance for Old Gold.

Sky Sports‘ Tim Sherwood was watching the Wolves game for Soccer Saturday and was blown away with Cunha’s display.

He marvelled when asked for an update, saying: “Cunha is amazing, that boy can drive with the football and can turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye, he just needs to do it more often.”

The 24-year-old has shown in both games this season the danger he brings, which we imagine will multiply once O’Neil has a few weeks working with him.

The shining light

Cunha was undoubtedly the shining light in a horrific result that leaves Wolves on zero points this season.

The Brazilian was strong, quick and forward thinking, winning seven duels and completing three key passes via SofaScore, which in a game with a substantial loss, is a brilliant display.

It would be hoped that eventually the other players will click in the same way Cunha has, and when they do, this Wolves side could be seriously deadly on the break.

You do get the feeling that Cunha is a level above the rest of the team currently, with everything good coming through him.
