why I left wolves

‘The main reason’: Ruben Neves finally shares why he left Wolves to join Al Hilal

Ruben Neves has finally spoken about the reasons he left Wolves to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal.

The midfielder brought a six-year stint at Molineux to an end last month.

Many Wolves fans had expected Neves to depart.

But nobody could have predicted that he would move to Al Hilal, given the interest in him from some big clubs around Europe.

The feeling was that Neves was going to join Barcelona.

But the Spanish giants could not make the pure cash bid Wolves wanted.

Al Hilal could, and a £47 million transfer was agreed.

And now, Neves has spoken about the move.

Ruben Neves says he made Saudi move for his family

Neves has come in for quite a bit of criticism about his move.

For some, it’s wasting a part of his career to go to Saudi now, given the league is still very much in its infancy in its goal of becoming a top, competitive league.

But for Neves, the potential to secure future generations of his family was the main factor behind the decision.

He said: “To give my family the life I always dreamed of for them, this was, for me, the main reason that made me have no doubts about accepting this proposal.

“I have three children and a wife. Taking care of them is my biggest trophy.”

“The project, Al Hilal being the best club in Asia. Since the news started to come, my social media went crazy, it was unbelievable to see the amount of fans Al Hilal have and how passionate they are for football as well so it was a good decision for me and my family I’m sure.”

Neves was reportedly offered 10 times his Wolves salary to head to the Middle East.

Ruben Neves’ decision is understandable

Ultimately, football is just football.

Neves had a chance to earn truly incredible money by going to Saudi, and he will set up his young family for life, and then future generations after.

It might be a bit of a ‘shame’ to see such an amazing player playing below his level.

But he has done what is right for him and his family right now.

Hopefully, Neves will ended up returning to Europe in a couple of years maybe.
