Tottenham Hotspur has joined Lazio

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris ‘will not join Lazio’

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will reportedly not be signing for Lazio this summer.

Lloris has spent the last 11 years of his career at the North Londoners, making a total of 447 appearances in all competitions.

However, as a consequence of a number of mistakes during 2022-23 and an injury-restricted campaign, Spurs have since moved to a different option as number one.

Guglielmo Vicario arrived earlier in the summer transfer window, starting the club’s opening two Premier League fixtures and keeping a clean sheet against Manchester United on Saturday.

World Cup winner Lloris has not featured in either squad, it long being accepted that he does not have a future under Ange Postecoglou

As it stands, though, the 36-year-old is yet to find a new club, Lloris initially rejecting the advances of Saudi Arabia in order to remain in Europe.

Links with Nice soon went quiet, and it seemingly left a transfer to Lazio as the strongest option on paper with the Italian giants having earned a return to the Champions League.

Nevertheless, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Lazio will not be signing the veteran Frenchman before the September 1 deadline.

Romano says that Lloris was unwilling to arrive at Stadio Olimpico as backup to Ivan Provedel, who was an ever-present between the sticks in Serie A last season.

With Lloris turning down the advances of Lazio, it is claimed that I Biancocelesti will finalise the signing of Salernitana‘s Luigi Sepe as an alternative.

The 32-year-old has accumulated as many as 173 appearances in Serie A over the years, most recently featuring on 17 occasions in the top flight during the last campaign.Tottenham hero snubs Serie A switch with key reason identified for transfer breakdown

Spurs and Lloris must now try to find a different option with chairman Daniel Levy keen to get his wages off their outgoings in order to help their efforts in the market.

If Lloris was to stay, that may have ramifications for fellow veteran Fraser Forster, the current number two and who deputised for Lloris during the closing months of 2022-23.
