Tottenham has signed a €75m point man

Tottenham formulating offer to sign Brennan Johnson

Tottenham are readying an offer for Brennan Johnson and could include players to persuade Nottingham Forest to sell.

According to Mail Sport, Tottenham could include players to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest. There is talk of Davinson Sanchez being offered to Steve Cooper’s side, which could prove intriguing if they can manage the wages. Meanwhile, he is also a target for Chelsea.

Brennan Johnson could yet leave Nottingham Forest despite a decent start to the season under Steve Cooper. The manager would not want to see his star attacker go at this stage of the window, although the club’s stance had been clear right from the start of the summer.

Brentford came in with a few bids, which would have seen the Bees break their transfer record. However, Forest, at the time, may have indicated a £50 million asking price, which clubs have been reluctant to meet so far.

Tottenham had been keen on Johnson before they sold Harry Kane and considered the £50 million-rated striker a replacement for their former talisman. They were reluctant to meet that asking price, which may have made them lean towards a part-exchange idea.

Chelsea had also considered a similar approach, as reports suggested youngster Andrey Santos could join them on loan as part of a deal. The Blues have not held concrete interest in Johnson, as they have pondered making approaches for other targets in the market.

Hence, Tottenham could have a window of opportunity and revive their idea of a part-exchange deal for Johnson. Moreover, the £50 million-rated Forest star reportedly favours a move to Spurs over Chelsea or other suitors, for he believes the chances of playing regularly are high in north London.

The idea of stepping into a bigger Premier League club would entice any player, let alone Johnson. He could speak with Nottingham Forest about the prospect if Tottenham come in with a strong approach that suits Cooper’s side.

Forest have lately struggled to bring in their transfer targets, and if Tottenham include someone like Davinson Sanchez, as mentioned in the report, the doors might open up. Over that, Spurs’ cash offer will also hold colossal importance, as Forest will expect a considerable outlay from suitors.

The Johnson situation seems much more complicated than on the outside, especially with the time left in the window. Losing him will hurt Forest as they must find a viable replacement, which may prove problematic in the latter stages.
