Norwich ‘interested’ in Coventry City transfer ahead of deadline

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues gear up for the final few days of the summer window.

Norwich City are reported to be considering a bid to sign Kasey Palmer from Coventry City ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.

The Canaries are interested in Palmer, having identified the attacking midfielder as a potential target at the back end of the summer window, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, he added that Norwich are “tempted to test Coventry with a bid this week”.

Palmer joined the Sky Blues from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee last summer. He signed a three-year contract, so has two years of that left to run. He played under Norwich boss David Wagner during a couple of loan spells at Huddersfield Town.

To date, Palmer has made 36 appearances for Mark Robins’ side, scoring four goals. Having helped Coventry reach the Championship play-off final last season, he has started three of the team’s four league fixtures so far this term, most recently the goalless draw with Sunderland on Saturday.

While the Sky Blues are mid-table after taking five points from a possible 12, Norwich are second behind leaders Leicester City, on 10 points. Wagner’s team have made an unbeaten start in the Championship, with three wins and a draw. They claimed an eye-catching 4-0 win away to Huddersfield on Saturday.

Coventry boss Robins, meanwhile, is hoping to add two more permanent signings to complete his summer recruitment this week, with a central midfielder and centre-half his priority before the transfer window shuts. He will no doubt be reluctant to lose any more first-team players, other than a possible loan exit.

Asked by CoventryLive if he was expecting any players to go out this week, Robins said: “At the moment we have had Jack Burroughs go out on loan to Lincoln and we are looking at potentially one other going out because they need to play. But at the moment we need to wait and assess the numbers because if we let one out now and then pick up a couple of injuries then it causes a major headache, so I want to try to hold onto them for the moment.

“But if we can bring in the players that we’re talking about then maybe we can do something there because it’s really important that players don’t stagnate, and it’s really unfair on players just to keep people in for that. But ultimately we need to do what’s right for us first, but we will try to do the right things. It has to make sense for everyone.”
