We look at two QPR players who, if they reach their full potential, might save the club millions of pounds in the future.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Sinclair Armstrong’s emergence as a central striker offers a promising solution to QPR’s goal-scoring issues despite missing some key chances. With pace, power, and directness, he has the potential to become a really good player.
  •  Rayan Kolli, with his physical attributes and aggressive playing style, has impressed in the youth and reserve teams. Ainsworth sees his potential, and if he can perform at the next level, QPR will save money on a new winger.
  •  QPR’s young talents, Armstrong and Kolli, have shown promise and potential. Their contributions have been crucial in addressing some of the squad’s deficiencies and can be long-term assets for the club.

Queens Park Rangers have had a rough start to the season, but the development of several young prospects has been a positive element.

Many fans and commentators predicted that the London-based team would fail for a variety of reasons at the start of this season. One example was how they concluded last season, when they were facing relegation. But, in the end, they were able to escape.

In addition, the squad appeared to be severely weak heading into the 2023/24 Championship season. They appeared to be reliant on Lyndon Dykes as their primary goal threat. With his injury history, that’s never a sure guarantee.

They simply did not have the resources to bring in any top-tier players. However, one of these players appears to have overcome some of these issues. The other could also have a significant role in long-term resolution.

Here are the two QPR players who can save the club millions of pounds.

2. Sinclair Armstrong

Nobody could have predicted his sudden arrival on the Championship scene at the start of the season.

The Irish forward had not scored a goal for the club before to this season. So far this season, he has only one goal. But he’s done a fantastic job stepping into that central striker role and providing some fresh air up front.

He did miss an absolute sitter a couple of weeks ago, which explains his xG of 1.57.

Normally, an xG of 1.57 and only one goal would lead you to believe that he is a wasteful striker. But it was just that one chance against Ipswich Town that he inexplicably missed. He was also unlucky in the game, with a shot that hit both posts but didn’t go in.

Even though he did not score, that game demonstrated what he brings to Gareth Ainsworth’s side. He moves quickly, powerfully, and bluntly. When you add the finishing touch that he’s come so close to on a handful of occasions, you’ve got a really excellent player on your hands, and he’ll only get better.

1. Rayan Kolli

The 18-year-old has made some first-team outings, but his efforts in the youth and reserve teams have earned him a seat on the bench.

Fans of the R’s lauded his effort against Spurs in the FA Youth Cup.

He possesses all of the physical characteristics of a winger. He has the twitchy ability to alter directions very quickly. He’s also fairly large for a player with his quickness and nimbleness.

He also possesses the aggressiveness and selfishness that distinguishes truly elite wingers. Kolli is a player that will run all day at the opposing defensive line.

Ainsworth evidently sees enough potential in him to bring him off the bench in several Championship games. If his style of play translates to the next level, he will save his team a significant amount of money on a new winger.
