Leeds United pundit makes an intriguing assertion

Prior to tonight’s trip to Hull, Sam Parkin thinks Leeds United could gain from playing away from home.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Leeds United have shown promise and recorded big wins away from home in recent matches.
  •  Leeds’ pace and quality in the final third make them better suited to playing away where there is more space.
  •  Leeds will hope to continue their positive form and aim for promotion, not wanting other contenders to open up a gap in the league standings.

Prior to their trip to Hull City this evening, Sam Parkin thinks that playing away from Elland Road may benefit Leeds United.

Leeds United has a history of strong triumphs away from home.

The Whites have had a difficult start to the season, but they have shown great promise in recent weeks, including important wins at Ipswich and Millwall.

In August, Daniel Farke’s team defeated the high-flying Tractor Boys 4-3, with all four forwards scoring.

And, with a more established squad, Leeds ran out 3-0 winners at Millwall on Sunday, which felt like a statement win given their terrible record in The Den over the last decade or so.

Farke’s men travel to Hull next, which will be a tough test given the Tigers’ record on their own turf since Liam Rosenior arrived.

However, Parkin discussed on the ‘What the EFL?’ podcast why Leeds being away from home could really benefit them.

“That’s seven goals for Leeds on the road since Daniel Farke has had a better idea of what his squad will look like.” At Elland Road, they’ll almost certainly come up against sides that sit back and show no ambition, so perhaps this will become a pattern.

“When teams come onto them away from home, they can be devastating.” Millwall gave it their all, but it may be difficult to break opponents down at Elland Road.”

Are Leeds more suited to playing away from home?

Parkin has a point, and Leeds are a team that excels in the final third thanks to their speed and talent.

As a result, they will undoubtedly profit from taking part in a game where there is more room in the back, which will typically occur more frequently away from home.

Many teams, including Sheffield Wednesday, will travel to Leeds and defend deeply, constrict the field, and put the onus on Farke’s team to break them down, the analyst claims.

Therefore, it is undoubtedly an intriguing dynamic, and it will be intriguing to see whether it turns out to be so in the upcoming weeks when we will have a clearer idea of whether it might be a problem.

We saw in the games against Ipswich and Millwall that Leeds can be fantastic on the road, and they will seek to build on that when they face Hull.

What comes next for Leeds?

Of course, all eyes will be on the game against Rosenior’s club, and Farke will expect another strong performance from his players.

Leeds are certainly aiming for promotion this season, and they will not want some of the other league contenders above them to open up a gap, even at this early point.

Leeds, on the other hand, appear to be in a good place right now, and Farke understands what it takes to be successful at this level, and he will believe that the Whites are capable of going on a strong run now leading up to the October international break.
