EVERY CONFIDENCE’: ASHLEY YOUNG BELIEVES EVERTON CAN CHANGE THE SEASON

Everton defender Ashley Young believes the Toffees can turn their season around, but that chances must be converted into goals.

The 38-year-old, who joined the Blues as a free agent in the summer, says he has ‘every faith’ that goals will come, but that it is the job of the entire club, not just the strikers.

The versatile defender told the Liverpool Echo: “You look at the chances we’ve been creating in games, and on different days it would be a different story.”

When you create those opportunities, it is up to everyone on the squad, not just the strikers, to score.

I have complete faith in the team and the squad to go out and score goals. It is on its way.

There are numerous games and points can be earned. If we don’t take the positives from the games and create opportunities like we have. We’d have more points on the board on other days.”

Ashley Young’s comments must now be put into action on the field. Everton generated numerous chances against Fulham and Wolves but failed to convert any of them, ultimately losing both games.

However, Sean Dyche’s team has since been thrashed 4-0 by Aston Villa and beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in what was maybe Everton’s most lifeless display of the season.

Indeed, Everton’s only Premier League goals this season have come during the Blues’ 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane, where they collected their first point of the season.

If £26 million forward Beto had been signed earlier in the summer, the results against Fulham and Wolves would have been different, but the club knew a striker was needed and yet waited.

However, as Young points out, it is the responsibility of the entire team to contribute goals, and with the Premier League’s tallest roster, more must be made of set pieces – and pulling the 38-year-old off corner duty would be a good start.
