Former Rangers and Dundee United striker Duncan Ferguson is set to be named Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager, according to reports.

The Highlands club is said to have agreed to employ the former Scotland international as their next manager.

Inverness have launched a search for a new manager after Billy Dodds was fired following a poor start to the league season.

According to Sky Sports, Ferguson has been chosen as the man who can turn things around in the Highlands.

Ferguson is expected to be introduced as the new manager of Inverness at 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The former Everton attacker is a free agent after Forest Green Rovers fired him after only six months in command of the English club.

He previously served as interim manager of Everton at Goodison Park twice.

Darren O’Dea was considered a contender for the Inverness job but chose against moving to the Highlands.

An attempt was made for negotiations with the Celtic B team coach, but the former Ireland international chose to stay at Celtic.

According to a source close to O’Dea, he was flattered by the contact but opted against making a move at this time.

And Inverness appears to have rapidly moved on to other targets, with Ferguson now rumored to be Dodds’ replacement at Inverness.

“It is with great regret that the club has decided to terminate the contracts of Head Coach Billy Dodds and his Assistant Manager Barry Wilson with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.

“First and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Billy for his efforts since taking the job. Regardless of the problems we faced, his professionalism, attention to detail, and optimistic attitude could never be questioned.”
