According to the same report, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham are all interested in Gimenez, with all three sending scouts to watch him play against Ajax at the weekend.

Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli are also said to be interested in the Mexican, who has 23 goals in 38 Eredivisie games.

What is unknown is if West Ham’s interest in the Cruz Azul academy product waned after they signed Mohammed Kudus, who also played in the Dutch top division with Ajax.

Given the increased interest in Gimenez, West Ham may have missed the boat in terms of acquiring the skilled attacker, should they still be interested.

However, Kudus’ two goals in his first 130 minutes of action for United shows that they won’t be too concerned about losing Gimenez if that turns out to be the case.

It would have been lovely to have landed another player who clearly knows how to score, but this now appears to be a target to move on from in order to avoid becoming engaged in what is shaping up to be a significant bidding war for his signature.

In other West Ham news, the club’s next Premier League opponents are said to have made a decision on their manager’s future.
