Report: Nottingham Forest star player has been really impressing Cooper in training

Steve Cooper, the head coach of Nottingham Forest, is thought to be quite impressed with Wayne Hennessey’s approach. The Wales goalkeeper is now the City Ground’s third choice.

The 36-year-old was unable to take part in pre-season. The Forest stopper was injured throughout the offseason, prompting the Reds to sign Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Hennessey is still with the club and has a year left on his contract. According to The Athletic, Cooper has been quite impressed with the seasoned goalie.

Hennessey is still at Forest, and he’s doing well.

It’s no wonder that Hennessey is knuckling down and rooting for his Forest colleagues. The goalkeeper has had a successful career and has seen it all.

Last season, the stopper competed with Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas. During 2022/23, he made nine appearances for the Reds, maintaining three clean sheets.

With the additions of Turner and Vlachodimos, he has understandably fallen down the pecking order. The goalkeeping department is competitive, with George Shelvey and Aaron Bott also competing hard.

What will Hennessey’s role be this season?

Given that Turner hasn’t played much football in the United States, Hennessey’s role may fly under the radar. He needs to be the calming influence, and it appears that he is.

Cooper has made an impression on Hennessey on the practice field, and he appears to be a positive influence. It’s difficult to imagine him playing much football, but at his age, that may not concern him too much.

Hennessey’s challenge now is to keep pushing his Forest teammates. If he can accomplish this, he will feel as if he has still contributed when the campaign ends and he leaves the City Ground.
