Free agent ex-Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor is ‘the type of character you need’ at Sheffield Wednesday, according to Barry Bannan. Sheffield Wednesday are considering signing free agent striker Lyle Taylor, who is now training with the club.Lyle Taylor justified in refusing to play for Charlton, says Lee Bowyer | Charlton Athletic | The Guardian

The former Nottingham Forest, Charlton Athletic, and Sheffield United midfielder has been training with the Owls for the past two weeks and can be signed outside of the transfer window to cover the remaining spot on the Owls’ EFL squad registration list.

Xisco has shown a wish to expand his offensive alternatives. The Star believes that a loan agreement for Jamal Lowe from Bournemouth fell through late in the summer window when he decided to return to Swansea City.

Taylor, who departed Forest in the summer and hasn’t played senior club football since a loan spell with Birmingham City ended in May 2022, is working on his health and there’s no word on when the club will make a decision on his signing.

He has played international football for Montserrat, scoring two goals in a win over Barbados earlier this month.

When asked about Taylor’s performance in training since his return to Sheffield following the international break, club captain Barry Bannan told The Star: “He’s done alright, he’s been good.”

“He’s come in and been bubbly, which is great to have around the place.” He exudes confidence and is quite audible!

“I remember coming in on the first day, it was as if he’s been here longer than me!”

Bannan believes Taylor’s approach and personality demonstrate the type of mettle required to perform in what is a pressure period at S6.

“That’s the sort of character you need to play in front of a packed Hillsborough,” he stated. “You need individuals who aren’t going to bail you out. On that front, he appears to be excellent.

“He hasn’t played much football in the last few months, so he’s obviously still trying to catch up.”

“But he’s been good from what I’ve seen in training.”

Taylor, like John Buckley before him, is represented by the same agency as Bannan.

But, while the Scot was instrumental in convincing Buckley that Wednesday was the club for him, his fingerprints were not found on their next prospective swap.

“This one had nothing to do with me,” he said with a smile. “My agent texted me earlier to let me know he was coming in and to care after him. But no, he just happens to work for my firm.

“It wasn’t anything to do with me.”
