QPR ace shares whether he deliberately let Man City’s Hit-man to score against “The Hoops”

Former goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has shared if he deliberately let Sergio Aguero score against him during Manchester City’s legendary 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers back in 2012.

After finding themselves 2-1 down against 10-man QPR, City scored two injury-time goals to turn the game around and ultimately win their first Premier League title, with Aguero scoring the winner against Kenny in what is now considered to be one of the club’s most important moments.

Last year, Wayne Rooney suggested that Kenny should have come under more scrutiny for not saving the shot from Aguero to stop City from winning the league.

Now though, the former QPR player has spoken out about this historical moment and his role in it.

Kenny weighs in on Aguero goal

Speaking in a recent edition of the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Kenny had this to say when asked if he let Aguero score the goal against him.

He said: “You look at the game and we played 45 minutes against the best team in the league, we didn’t have a kick.

“Joey Barton got sent off and we took the lead with 10 men and the amount of ball that City had had. Once they got the goal from the corner, even though I do think things would been different because we knew we’d stayed up.

“It was like a relief more than anything. We didn’t know what was going on at Man United, we didn’t know how significant it was until after the game and that’s when you realise. No, I didn’t let it in.”

Looking back on the dramatic game at the end of the 2011/12 season, City had 44 attempts at goal in total, forcing Kenny to make 15 saves throughout the game.

In terms of Aguero’s goal, taking into account how quickly the striker was moving before the shot, as well as the power he put behind it and how close he was to the goal, we feel that this would have been a tough save to make for any goalkeeper in such a high-pressure moment.

Now that Kenny has dismissed any speculation regarding whether or not he let the City hero score his winning goal, this should put to bed any conspiracy there may be around the football world about his role in seeing City beat United to the title.
