‘I don’t want this to come across as arrogant’ Everton star reviews

‘I don’t want to come across as arrogant,’ says Luton Town manager about Everton.
Rob Edwards assesses Luton Town’s 2-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Luton Town manager Rob Edwards maintained he always anticipated his team would beat Everton at Goodison Park after the club’s first-ever Premier League victory.

“I’m just very proud for the players and pleased for the club,” Edwards said. I understand how significant it is to win the Premier League for the first time. I don’t want this to come out as arrogant, but it was expected of us.

“I had high expectations for us, and I told the boys before the game, ‘I know this is going to be a good day.'” I truly thought that we could come here and win the game in all of our previous games.

“We had a fantastic plan. Everton has some good players, and they were quite fluid, particularly in the first half. At 2-0, there was a lot of movement and activity, and we needed to adjust, which we did at halftime, and I thought we looked more solid again. “I felt we deserved it.”

Although Blues boss Sean Dyche bemoaned his team’s missed chances as they suffered their fourth straight home loss this season, Edwards was pleased with how his newly-promoted side kept the hosts at arm’s length after the break, clinging on for the three points without too much drama. “I’m pleased,” he remarked. It’s a really difficult area to visit.

“I understand they haven’t had the best run of results recently, but any game away from home will be difficult for us.” I’m pretty happy with how we started the game; it was a little end-to-end, but we looked like a real danger and played some good things.

“We were aggressive in our pressing because we did not want to sit back.” We were definitely clinical in our set pieces, and we had a few of nice chances before scoring the two goals; we looked a real threat from set pieces, something we work hard on.

“Going 2-0 up was new territory for us at this level.” They came in, and it was critical for us to get in at 2-1.

“I thought we could regroup a little bit, but we had to make an enforced change and show a lot of character and spirit in the second half to defend reasonably comfortably in the end.”

“We knew where the game was going to be at that point,” Edwards added. They had momentum and were chasing us, while we were clinging to win.

“In terms of how we played, we almost accepted where the game was going to go, but I felt we dealt with everything that was thrown at us.” It was a great nice day for us, but I’m not going to get carried away because it’s only one victory, three points, and we have another tough game on Tuesday, so we have to appreciate the wins when they come.”

“I think it will be good for belief and confidence,” Edwards added. I’ve been harping on how our performances have improved and how much more we’ve been involved in games recently.

“Brighton away was a tough start, Chelsea away was tough, and we were well-beaten in the end, but in the games since, we’ve grown, learned, and adapted.” We could have gotten West Ham, Fulham, and Wolves, but we didn’t, so here we are.

“We’re making progress. It won’t last forever; we’ll face obstacles and setbacks, but we’re changing and progressing, and I appreciate what we’re doing right now.
