The 27-year-old confesses it was difficult for him to leave Everton this summer, and there are some things he cannot say.

Former Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed that leaving the club this summer to join Fulham was a difficult decision.

Iwobi was speaking to The Athletic in a lengthy interview about the reasons behind his leaving.

The midfielder said that he was looking for a fresh challenge, but he also stated that there were some considerations that he was not permitted to address.

“It wasn’t an easy decision [to leave],” Iwobi stated of his own decision.

“I had a good time there.” Especially in the previous few years. They [Everton supporters] seemed to warm to me.

“At the same time, I felt I needed a new challenge, and Fulham are giving me the platform to express myself and do that.”

Iwobi of Fulham then went on to address the reasons at Everton that he couldn’t discuss.

“There were a lot of talks behind closed doors — there are things I’m not allowed to say — but I feel like it was a success,” he continued.

Iwobi claims Everton wanted him to go for Fulham.
Of course, on deadline day, Fulham paid £22 million for Iwobi.

Fulham manager Marco Silva was eager to reunite with Iwobi, with whom he briefly worked at Everton.

Because of a nagging hamstring ailment, Iwobi’s start to the season has been hampered at both clubs.

However, after playing 90 minutes in the EFL Cup against Norwich last week, Iwobi may be expecting to make his first league start for Fulham tonight.

The Cottagers host Chelsea and may be hoping for another win against their opponents, who are experiencing another difficult season.

It is too early to say that Everton misses Iwobi, although some fans may be perplexed by the choice to sell to Fulham.
