Frank Lampard, a former manager of Derby and Everton, is currently available for hire after his second stint with the two-time European winners Chelsea came to an end at the end of the previous season.

Frank Lampard is a candidate to become the new manager of Rangers.

Since his short-term contract with Chelsea terminated in May, Lampard has been unemployed. His second stint at Stamford Bridge didn’t go as planned, as the Blues finished last in the Premier League since 1994 after winning just one of his 11 games in charge.

After firing Michael Beale on Sunday, Rangers are looking for a new manager. Glasgow Giants are now seven points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race after their humiliating 3-1 home loss to Aberdeen on Saturday.

Steven Davis, a midfielder for Rangers, has been granted the position on an interim basis, although given his playing background, he is unlikely to take the position on a permanent basis. The other managers up for consideration are Kevin Muscat, Philippe Clement, and Pascal Jansen.

Lampard is willing to meet with Rangers about the vacancy role, The Telegraph said. The Englishman, who has already expressed his admiration for the Ibrox club, is prepared to consider a return to management if the opportunity presents itself.

For Rangers’ 2008 UEFA Cup final loss to Zenit St. Petersburg at the Etihad, Lampard even sat among the supporters. At the time, he acknowledged having a “great fondness” for the Scottish giants and referred to the match there as “the best friendly” he had ever participated in.

Although it’s too soon to tell if Rangers will give him a chance. Lampard has a mediocre track record as a manager. He played for Derby for one season, leading them to the 2019 Championship Playoff Final, where they fell to Aston Villa 2-1 at Wembley.

In July 2019, Lampard was appointed Chelsea’s manager. His squad won the FA Cup, losing to Arsenal 2-1, and finished in the top four of the Premier League despite operating on a tight budget. Nevertheless, he was fired by the Blues in July 2021 as a result of a weak start to the ensuing season.

In January 2022, Everton hired Lampard, who led them to Premier League safety. With only 12 victories under his belt, he was fired a year later. Later, in April, he went back to Chelsea for a temporary stint, which turned out to be a disaster.

Rangers will speak with alternative candidates before making a choice. Last season, Jansen led AZ Alkmaar to fourth place in the Eredivisie, and Clement, the former manager of Monaco, is another contender who has had success with Genk in Belgium.

Muscat is well-known to Rangers supporters because in 2003, he helped the Scottish powerhouses win the domestic triple. The current manager of Yokohama F Marinos is a former defender who played for Crystal Palace, Wolves, and Melbourne. He has won championships in Australia and Japan.
