NEWS NOW: Swans officially sign midfielder, Demons compensation revealed….

James Jordon has officially signed a contract with the Swans after being the first to file paperwork to move to Sydney from Melbourne in the first AFL free agency period of 2023.

Jordon, a 187cm central midfielder-forward, had been a target for Victorian clubs such as St Kilda, Essendon and Collingwood before choosing Sydney as his new home late last year.

Melbourne will receive compensation at the end of Round Two, believed to be pick No.39 in November’s draft, according to the AFL.

Jordon was selected with pick 33 of the 2018 national draft and made his debut in the 2021 season. He played in all 25 games, was nominated for a Rising Star and, of course, was part of the team that won a historic premiership in 2021.

After playing 65 games for Melbourne, Jordon struggled with a lack of opportunities this year. He only played 18 games, two of which were unused subs and eight as activated subs or subs, before opting for a new chapter in his career.

On paper, his stats weren’t great, with an average of 13.1 per game, but that was largely due to being a substitute. He played 22 games last year, averaging 20.2 per game, showing that he had the potential to become a quality midfielder.

Young Lion Jordon has asked to move to the Victorian club after five seasons in Melbourne.

The 26-year-old was an unrestricted free agent and made it clear to the Demons that he wanted to look for more opportunities at the end of the season.

The club appears to have given him carte blanche to do so with the paperwork being completed within a matter of hours after the trade period opened.

The Swans are likely to welcome a familiar face in Jordon, with it being rumoured that he will be joining fellow Demons player Brodie Grondy.
