Don’t say we didn’t warn you after embarrassing and unacceptable display during Newcastle clash

In yesterday afternoon’s match between West Ham and Newcastle, referee Peter Bankes gave an absolutely horrendous performance. The Hammers were held to a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium, but the outcome could have been much different if Bankes had handled the game to a decent standard.

David Moyes’ comments after the 2-2 draw with Newcastle suggests Michail Antonio is likely to be dropped.

Before the Toon game, we warned you about Bankes, who has made some of the most controversial decisions in the club’s history.

Hammers manager David Moyes will be very disappointed with the refereeing at London Stadium yesterday afternoon. Newcastle were given the benefit of the doubt and West Ham were at the other end of the law all day. Don’t think we haven’t warned you…

Peter Bankes leaves a trail of smoke at the London Stadium during West Ham’s clash with Newcastle

It was one of the worst refereeing performances you’ll ever see from a professional at the London Stadium.

And, as usual for West Ham, pretty much every decision went against them.

In the first half, Bankes refused to give a second yellow card to Newcastle after he was penalised for tripping Jarrod Bowen in the box.

He also failed to give a yellow card to West Ham striker Lucas Paqueta for elbowing a Newcastle player in the head.

In the second half, Bankes gave Newcastle a free-kick after Paqueta gave way to Sandro Tonali and the Magpies scored from the resulting set-piece!

The 41-year old was also fortunate not to receive a yellow for gesturing for him to book a Hammers player – an offence Emerson Palmieri had committed earlier in the game and for which he had been booked and given a yellow!

Peter Bankes’ performance at West Ham vs Newcastle was a disaster in every sense of the word. Do you know how Liverpool often have certain referees banned from their games? Yeah, we need to get on board with that too.
