According to SI’s Albert Breer, the NFL trade deadline might be highly active.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Minnesota Vikings could be sellers before the Oct. 31 trade deadline. That’s not breaking news given that the Vikings are 1-4 and will be missing Justin Jefferson for the next four games, but Breer’s statements this week carry a bit more weight. This is why.

“Let me put it this way. I had some extremely good NFL guys tell me back in April and May that this might be the most active trade deadline in a long time. And the reason for that was because the quarterback group was coming out,” Breer stated on Wednesday during a guest interview with Colin Cowherd.

“I just think there are going to be some interesting conversations in some of these buildings where an owner could get starry-eyed over the idea of getting a Caleb Williams or a Drake Maye, so I think that could lead to some pretty interesting dynamics over the next couple of weeks.”

With the Bears and 49ers on the schedule, the Vikings are looking at a 2-5 or 1-6 record heading into the last week before the Halloween trade deadline.

“How about the state of Minnesota?” What do you think you’d get Danielle Hunter? Forget Kirk Cousins as a top-tier pass rusher. What could you possibly get Danielle Hunter? What would you be able to acquire for Harrison Smith? What could you get for K.J. Osborn, a really good slot receiver in a contract year who you might not be prepared to pay because you have Justin Jefferson to pay and Jordan Addison on the other side of him?” Breer asked.

“I think teams like Minnesota and Denver – which aren’t objectively bad rosters – have pieces to sell, could wind up being key players at the trade deadline and in a different way than they have been in the past as sellers, not buyers.”
