The 49ers are getting strong reinforcements.
The San Francisco 49ers acquired Chase Young last week in the hopes of improving their pass rush. However, the squad is also expecting some attacking reinforcements.
The 49ers will return from a much-needed break on Monday to begin preparations for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Deebo Samuel suffered a hairline fracture in his shoulder against the Cleveland Browns on October 15, but he believes he’ll be able to play against the Jaguars.
“I am ready to go,” Samuel declared firmly last week.
Tackle Trent Williams was also hurt in the same game, sustaining a low-ankle sprain but finishing the game. Both players missed the previous two games, and their return may provide the spark that the 49ers need to snap their three-game losing run.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said last week that he thought Williams might be able to play against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, analyzing his movements on the eve of the game revealed that the offensive lineman required extra time to heal.
“We thought he was going to be good, but he wasn’t,” Shanahan stated the next day. “Hopefully, he’ll have a good week this week of rehab and be ready to go when we come back for practice next Monday.”
It’s also worth noting that running back Christian McCaffrey has been dealing with a minor oblique tear, which he suffered in the game against the Browns, and which could be affecting his effectiveness on the field. Needless to say, the October 15 game took a toll on the 49ers’ general health.
“I think we lost a couple of [players] in that Cleveland game—Deebo gets nicked on the first play of the game,” general manager John Lynch recently told NBC Sports Bay Area. “Trent Williams works hard to get through that game.” Christian also has the oblique. So those are your three top players.”
Lynch and the 49ers recognize that these are merely excuses. “You have to be able to respond,” the general manager stated.
Nonetheless, the Niners feel the losses and hope that their approaching returns will be enough to correct the team’s recent setbacks.
There are also several players on the injured list who could return, including wide receiver Danny Gray, defensive lineman Robert Beal, and defensive backs Samuel Womack and Darrell Luter. Could any of these players make an impact this season?
“Yeah, these guys, I think we’re about to have to make that decision,” Lynch confessed this week. “Kyle and I will have some conversations, as will our health and performance staff council, but these guys are ready to have their windows open.” However, you must also have roster places available.
“However, I believe a couple, if not a few, are about to open their windows.” We’ll have to see what they can offer us at some point.”
