The 33-year-old moved on a free transfer to League One club Wycombe Wanderers this week and made his debut against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Trophy on Saturday.

Taylor told his new club’s in-house media that it felt “weird” to be preparing for a game again, and that it was a feeling he missed after a difficult summer and autumn.

Taylor left Forest after his contract expired this summer. He didn’t play a minute of football last season, and his last competitive game was for Birmingham City during a loan stay in 2021/22.

“It’s extremely difficult to express exactly what it means.” It was an odd sensation getting ready to play a game.

“The last competitive game I played in the Football League was for Birmingham 18 months ago.” It felt great to be getting set to play football again, starting on Friday afternoon. I’m delighted to be here. It’s been a strange summer and autumn for me, but I’m pleased to be here.”

When asked what he’s been doing since leaving Forest, Taylor replied, “I’ve played a lot of golf, and I’m really good at golf now.” I’ve been training and competing in international football. And a lot of golfing. I’m not going to lie, I’ve done a lot of playing. It’s been enjoyable.”

“I’m really glad to be here,” he said of his decision to join Wycombe. This will be a struggle for me. The boys have been fantastic, and I’m delighted to be back playing football. It’s impossible to overstate (the fact that) I’m back, I’m somewhere I’m wanted, and I’m really excited to get started in the league.”
