Warriors’ key player suffers career-ending injury
The Golden State Warriors revealed that guard Chris Paul suffered a lower left leg nerve contusion against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday and would be evaluated again on Monday.
Prior to Monday, Golden State plays two games against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The 12-time All-Star played less than five minutes before leaving Golden State’s 124-123 loss to the Kings.
To some extent, Paul’s season has been a mixed bag as he adjusts to life as a reserve. He’s averaging 7.3 assists per game to help relieve the pressure on Stephen Curry as the primary facilitator, but he’s only shooting 39.9 percent from the floor.
For the most part, the Hall of Fame-bound playmaker is assisting in providing some offensive punch to the Warriors’ second unit, which is precisely what the Warriors were going for.
However, the injury was both a hindrance to his further assimilation into Golden State’s strategy and a reminder of his durability issues. Paul last appeared in more than 70 games in the 2015-16 season.
The Warriors would have expected the 38-year-old to miss some time due to his injury history. The most essential thing is that he is healthy and properly integrated by the time the postseason arrives.
