It’s Official: Texas Longhorns has just added a significant difference maker via the Transfer Portal

Texas Longhorns has just added a significant difference maker via the Transfer Portal

Texas Longhorns will compete in the College Football Playoff on New Year’s Day in New Orleans.

But, before they arrive, they have earned an early Christmas present.

Former Clemson Tigers safety Andrew Mukuba committed to Texas through the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday, beating out Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, and Ole Miss Rebels.

After visiting the Longhorns this weekend, he declared his decision on X, allowing Texas to seal the deal.

Mukuba, an Austin native, is the portal’s top-rated safety and was a crucial member of a Clemson team that ranked No. 24 in scoring defense, No. 5 in pass defense, No. 27 in rush defense, and No. 7 in total defense.

Report: Former Clemson S Andrew Mukuba to visit Oregon in coming days

Mukuba led the defense in tackles with 42, as well as two tackles for loss and six pass breakups.

Mukuba has appeared in 35 games over the last three seasons, recording 143 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and 16 PBUs.

Texas has previously lost B.J. Allen, Larry Turner Gooden, and Jal Catalon to the transfer portal, as well as Kitan Crawford, Jerrin Thompson, and Jahdae Barron to graduation/the NFL Draft.

Mukuba would be a perfect fit in the Longhorns’ STAR position, which Barron has held for the last two seasons, and would cover a significant positional need for the Horns coming into the SEC.
