Leeds United has completed the signing of a top class player.

Leeds United have been linked with a number of Premier League defenders this month.

The Whites have predominantly been looking at potential loan deals from the division above as they look to strengthen their squad, but will have to get a move on with the window closing in nine days’ time.

Full-backs are very much Leeds’ priority in the next week or so but central defenders could also be on the agenda with Charlie Cresswell likely to leave Elland Road due to a lack of game time.

One name who has been linked with replacing him in the last 48 hours is Everton’s Ben Godfrey, who is said to be attracting interest from Leeds, Sheffield United and even AC Milan.

However, speaking on the latest episode of the Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, journalist Luke Edwards believes it could come down to a ‘straight shootout’ between Leeds and the Blades.

Leeds battling for Godfrey

He said: “So there are three options there. I would choose AC Milan all day every day. But I have a feeling this will come to a straight shootout between Sheffield United and Leeds United.

“It’s one of those debates which you can put yourself into as a football fan. These are three very different clubs, very different parameters, expectations and situations. I think it’s a brilliant three-way choice.”

Godfrey is well known to Leeds boss Daniel Farke, having worked under him at Norwich City, including in the season they pipped the Whites to promotion to the Premier League in 2018/19.

Due to injuries, Godfrey has somewhat lost his way a bit at Everton over the last couple of seasons but does remain a good defender, having once been valued at £50 million by the Canaries.

While Sheffield United can ensure he is playing Premier League football for the next five months, hopefully a reunion with Farke can persuade Godfrey to make the drop into the Championship.
