Since receiving a blow to the head and neck region during the second quarter of Clemson’s most recent game against NC State, Shipley has been under concussion protocol. Shipley was listed as “day-to-day” by coach Dabo Swinney this week, but he was ruled out prior to Saturday’s (noon, ABC) kickoff against Notre Dame (7-2).

Shipley has 515 yards on 112 carries in eight games this season, making him Clemson’s top rusher. With him sidelined, the majority of Clemson’s (4-4) carries will come from junior Phil Mafah. Mafah has 73 carries for 439 yards and 6 touchdowns.

CLEMSON VS. NOTRE DAME: Sam Hartman, the starting quarterback for Clemson football, is being prepared by Dabo Swinney.

Domonique Thomas, a redshirt junior, will advance to RB2, according to Swinney. He has made eight appearances, four of them offensive, and has 11 carries for 74 yards.

Quarterback Cade Klubnik was on the field throwing during pregame warm-ups, defying pregame rumors that he might miss the Notre Dame game. His ankle was taped, and his right leg was covered with a sleeve. The list of players Clemson released that would miss the game did not include him.

Additionally sidelined for a second straight game is Justin Mascoll. Due to an unspecified injury, the sixth-year defensive end was unable to play against NC State. In his place, T.J. Parker, a rookie, is expected to start.

Antonio Williams, a wide receiver, is still sidelined due to a toe injury. This season, he has missed five games due to injuries of various kinds; this Notre Dame game marks his second straight absence.

Marcus Tate, a left guard, will be missing from the offensive line, which has already been playing without starting right guard Walker Parks for the majority of the season.

Additionally, the defensive backfield is missing four players: R.J. Mickens and Jalyn Phillips, the starting safeties, will not play against Notre Dame. Mickens is recuperating from an appendectomy and missing his second straight game. The nature of Phillips’ injury is unknown. Both starting corner Sheridan Jones and sophomore safety Sherrod Covil Jr. are sidelined due to an undisclosed injury.
